Oliver with a twist

This week years 4-8 performed a production of Oliver with a Twist. Oliver with a Twist is based on the book and movie Oliver Twist but a junior version when no one dies. Oliver with a twist is about an orphan boy who’s parents died but still has a living grandfather, in this show Oliver joins a crime gang and is forced to pickpocket. Bill Skye’s is an undercover cop who had been trying to expose the lady that owns the crime gang for months. By the end of the play Oliver and all the orphans go to a school run by Bill, Nancy (who is a kind lady who was taking care of all the children in the crime gang) and Mister Brownloe who is Oliver’s grandfather. This week has been a busy but fun week with four performances and one dress rehearsal. I was just in a dance which means the people who actually had speaking roles in the play would have been working a lot harder and had a lot of rehearsals on the weekend and after school. I found this production very fun and a lot of memories were made.

My favourite character was probably Nancy because she was so caring and kind.

My favourite song was Rise Like a Phoenix

My favourite line “I had my favourite handkerchief stolen last week, it was used as well” by Ava.

Have you seen Oliver Twist?

Canterbury Basketball

At main power stadium we completed in a basketball tournament with schools all round Canterbury. Our first game was against Kaiapoi north which was a good game but we lost 10-6. Our second game was against Templeton and we won. Our third game we went against haslwell and won again which meant we go to playoffs even if we lose our last game in our pool. For our last game we versed West Rolleston and lost. We still went to play offs and versed OLA first and won. Lastly we versed Queenspark school and we went to golden point as we tied but they got the last point.

Cardinal Visit

Last week we had a very special Visit by Cardinal John Jew. Cardinal John Jew is the only New Zealand Cardinal. Cardinal Jew came and explained a lot about the conclave process. Multiple schools including St Josephs,St Patrick’s, New Brighton catholic, and a few more schools. I found that the fact that Cardinal John Jew was one of the only people with a watch because most people had smart watches and they had to take the smart watches off them. Cardinal John Jew was a very interesting visit and explained a lot to us. I found that this was a great opportunity to learn more about what we have been learning about in R.E and have someone who was apart of the conclave to come and tell us about their experience. Overall this was an amazing opportunity for our school and many other catholic schools across Christchurch.

Would you like to have a cardinal come to your school?

A symbol of God

Last week in Religious education (R.E ) we read four stories about God, after we read these stories we reflected on them. Next we thought about a Image that could represent God like a lighthouse, Shepard or rainbow. I thought about what represented God and decided to do a map. I chose a map because just like a map God shows us the way and guides us. After I chose my image I put the Image on a Google drawing and answered some questions.

If you chose a symbol of God what would you chose?

When I grow up I want to be…

When I grow up I want to be a Lawyer,Marine biologist, an animal trainer, or a zoologist.

Lawyer, I would like to be a lawyer because I love reading and helping others deal with their problems. I also like giving people advice and would love to fight to give other people the justice they deserve.

Marine biologist, I would like to become a Marine Biologist because I love the ocean and sea animals. I love exploring the ocean and the beach. If you’re a Marine biologist you spend most of the time in the ocean or on the beach.

Animal Trainer, I would like to be a Animal Trainer because I love animals and would like to train some of them like dolphins or seals on how to do cool tricks. If I became an Animal trainer I would like to work with the seals or dolphins at Sea World in the Gold coast.

Zoologist, I would like to become a zoologist because I really like animals and the zoo. I would be very fascinated.

I would like to become a lawyer, Marine biologist, an animal trainer or a zoologist by the age of 25 at latest.

What would you like to be when you grow up?

PALs Dodgeball Tournament

The PALs (Physical activity Leader) have been running a dodge ball tournament for the Year 4,5, and 6 . We run the dodge ball tournament on Wednesday morning tea, Thursday Lunch and Friday Lunch. The Year 4,5, and 6s are really excited.

One of the things we struggled with was getting the hall free on some days. Also getting the kids to settle down and know that when their  out their out. We made draws so the kids knew who they were playing against.

Overall this dodge ball tournament was quite fun and us PALs learnt a lot from this. I think the kids have had quite fun and enjoyed it.
